PETROL prices are set to reach £1.40 a litre, industry experts warned last night.
“If the price of oil continues rising in the new year it will have a huge influence. We are already in record territory with petrol prices – we have been since the beginning of December. Where will we be this time in 2011?” Fuel duty goes up 1p from today. On Tuesday the VAT rise to 20 per cent will add another 2.5p a litre – taking the total tax increase to 3.5p on petrol and 3.64p on diesel in just four days.
