Another odd bird mystery...they are not dead or anything, but they reminded me of the bees being 20 miles off course. Why are all these animals "off course"? They have been doing this bird count for over 100 years (This year was the 111st time they did it.) and they had never seen these geese here!
"However, in the southeast reaches of the count area, a group of three birders spotted three greater white-fronted geese, mixed among a couple of hundred Canada geese.
“That’s pretty rare,” Hanneman said. “They are an Arctic breeder, and they are very common out West, but they typically don’t get much farther east than the Mississippi.”
Hanneman said he’s confident that the identification was correct.
“It’s the first I’ve heard of them on one of (the Ashtabula County) counts,” Hanneman said."
