Original Message Somalia Drought Might Kill 2.5 Million, Prime Minister Says

Somalia’s agriculture is collapsing as the war-torn East African nation faces a drought that might cause the deaths of as many as 2.5 million people, Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed said today.

“Unless we will have immediate support, definitely there will be a catastrophic situation in Somalia,” Mohamed told reporters at the United Nations in New York. “I am making a very strong appeal to the international community to address this humanitarian crisis.”

Somalia, with a population of 10 million, has been in a state of civil war for two decades and hasn’t had a functioning central administration since the 1991 ouster of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre. Its Transitional Federal Government and 8,000 African Union troops are battling Islamic militants, which the U.S. says have links with the al-Qaeda terrorist network, for control of the capital Mogadishu and southern Somalia.

Prime Minister Mohamed told the UN Security Council that the African Union troops and forces loyal to his government have taken control of 60 percent of Mogadishu and that 80 percent of the people in the capital now live in that area. He said an increasing number of young fighters of al-Shabaab, the leading Islamic group, have begun surrendering to government forces.

Obama's first cousin Raila Amollo Odinga is the prime Minister of Kenya.

Oginda has strong ties to the Muslim extremist group the al-Shabaab.

While a sitting U.S. Senator, in August of 2006 Obama personally campaigned with his cousin (and donated $1 million) during Odinga's campaign for the Kenyan Presidency in August of 2006. Obama did this even knowing Odinga's promises to recognize the wishes of al-Shabaab once he came to power should he be elected.

Odinga was not elected President of Kenya. He missed being elected by more than 250,000 votes. Even so, Odinga threatened widespread violence on the part of his followers if he wasn't given the Presidency even though he had lost the election.

Under Odinga's orders, his followers burned, killed, and pillaged their way across Kenya, burning doen 1000 Christian churches, killing more than 500, dosplacing 1000s, and burning 50 Christians inside their own church (mostly women and children).

To pacify Odinga and quell the violence, the duly elected new President of Kenya and Odinga's bitter rival, Emilio Mwai Kibaki, agreed to share some of his governing responsibilities with Odinga and he created a new position of Prime Minister which Odinga now holds.

Before Obama's muslim side of the family (the paternal side, members of the Luo tribe) settled in Kenya, they were from Somalia and before that they were from Egypt.

While Obama was campaigning in person with his cousin Odinga, there was an evening when Obama spent with his "tribesmen" (his elder male relatives who live north of Mombassa). It is common for members of the Luo tribe to be members of al-Shabaab terror cells in Kenya. On the evening when Obama was in northern Kenya (closer to the Somali border), Obama was dressed in the traditional garb of a Somali elder.

the problems the al-Shabaab have with western governments such as the Americans go back at least two decades to the early 1990s when the U.S. government was occupying Mogadishu in Somalia.

In Kenya and Somalia, it is common knowledge that al-Shabaab has organizational links to al-Quaeda.
