Original Message First: Why would NASA use natural gas? Do they heat their facility, or even need heat? Why not solar energy, after all, they live in the Sunshine State. Seems odd to me...

Natural Gas Leak Causes Evacuations At Shuttle Homeport

Wednesday, February 02, 2011
A natural gas leak prompted the evacuation of several buildings at Kennedy Space Center today but NASA officials say the leak was stopped and no one was injured.

Dozens of people in the Launch Complex 39 area streamed from the Orbiter Processing Facility, the Vehicle Assembly Building, two operations support buildings and a multi-function facility that houses a cafeteria. Security officials blocked off roadways in the area and fire department personnel are on the scene.

Feds, NASA agents raid Port St. John home

PORT ST. JOHN — The Birch Drive home of two former United Space Alliance employees was raided by authorities as part of an investigation by the NASA Office of Inspector General.

Officials of NASA and space shuttle contractor United Space Alliance are cooperating with the investigation, spokesmen said Wednesday. But they declined to elaborate on the investigation, referring questions to the investigative agency.

“We have no comment regarding the matter at this time,” said Renee Juhans, executive officer for the NASA Office of Inspector General, which conducts independent oversight of NASA programs and operations.

The home that was raided Tuesday at 6575 Birch Drive is owned by David and Joyce Abbey, Brevard County Property Appraiser’s Office show.

Both are former employees of United Space Alliance.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office call records indicate that the SWAT team and a bomb squad were dispatched to the scene Tuesday, and that at least some residents of the area were temporarily evacuated.
