Don't try to turn around or get off the highway. It's a trap. They are actually waiting to see who turns around or tries to exit the highway.
My girlfriend and I were driving on Interstate 70 through rural Kansas last night, and we saw signs saying "checkpoint ahead" etc, and we saw a couple of cop cars way up ahead, with their lights flashing. I had a little bit of weed on me, so after seeing the checkpoint sign, my girlfriend said we should get off at the upcoming exit which was ahead of the "checkpoint" and turn around. I have heard of this kind of thing before, so I said "nope, I bet it's a trap, and I bet there's no checkpoint ahead at all, and I'm gonna keep on going". Well, as we got further down the road, we saw that indeed there was no checkpoint, and it was just two cops with their lights on, trying to make it appear from a distance that there was a checkpoint. We did, however, see a couple of blacked out cop cars hiding by an exit and in the median waiting to get anyone who turned around or whatever.
Anyway, I had heard of this sort of thing before, but had never seen it in action until last night. Luckily, I knew not try to turn around or anything, so we made it through with no trouble.
That's my public service announcement for the night. Hope it helps someone someday.
