Original Message Here we see the forbidding of making or creating ANY graven image, whether it represents a creature on earth or in the sea, an angel in heaven or even God Himself.

Exodus 20:4

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:

but here Moses is clearly commanded by God to create a graven image of a creature on earth, a fiery serpent

Numbers 21:8

And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

so what is up with this?
