Warrnambool - Several people were injured after a riderless horse jumped a fence into a crowd during a steeplechase race in Australia.
Banna Strand, who had lost jockey Rowan Waymouth during the race, jumped a two-metre fence at Warrnambool, Victoria.
Seven people were taken to hospital. Four were discharged with minor bruising, a two-year-old girl suffered a fractured collarbone, a 12-year-old girl was having an injured foot x-rayed, and an 80-year-old woman was having shoulder and hip x-rays.
"Our primary concern is for the well-being of those people that were injured in this freak accident," Racing Victoria chief executive Rob Hines said in a statement.
"As part of Racing Victoria's risk management program, ambulances and paramedics were on hand to provide immediate assistance and transfer those requiring further attention to Warrnambool Base Hospital."
