RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - Wildlife officials say they believe recent storms and heat killed more than 1,000 fish at an eastern Indiana lake.

The fish were spotted floating or washed up on the banks of Middlefork Reservoir near Richmond beginning Sunday.

State Department of Natural Resources biologist Rhett Wisener tells the Palladium-Item that this is the spawning season for the gizzard shad that died, so it is already a stressful time for them.

Indiana-American Water Co. environmental supervisor Rich Nicholson says tests found no problems with the reservoir's water and that the company would continue to monitor the lake.
