This is after the Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, recently detected hydrogen in a pipe leading to the containment vessel of No.1 reactor. A hydrogen explosion occurred at the No.1 reactor on March 12th, after the March 11th quake and tsunami. http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/26_02.html :siren2: :abomb: :abomb: :abomb:
[quote:Anonymous Coward 1367032:MV8xNTM3MTQ2XzI3MzE5MzkyXzdDMzMzNkY0] So now their admitting that their is Hydrogen. So the zirconium alloy must still be producing some. So the low temperatures they are reporting can't be the real temperatures, either their not telling the truth, they are broken or the core has moved further away from the gauge. For Hydrogen to be produced the temp has to be around 500°C–2000°C. They are reporting that the hydrogen detected is around 1% of the atmosphere. If it reaches 4% there is a big chance of an explosion if Oxygen is around 5%.
This is a very volatile situation. If they can't control or ameliorate the hydrogen there will be more explosions. They have pumped liquid nitrogen into the vessels to displace the hydrogen. If this is no longer working it is because the hydrogen is being produced in the ground under the reactors where they can't do anything about it. Very bad.
