[quote:MIH:MV8xNTM3MTQ2XzI4ODUxOTE1XzhCQTJBMjhD] Firstly, hello, I'm new. And Happy New Year. But I'm here because I came across a thread here some months ago and it seemed there were a few posting that might know their business when it comes to monitoring radiation. Yes, I'm referring to Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, of course. I live in Japan. Have for over 20 years. A quick background on why I have questions. Since soon after the earthquake struck I have been archiving every press release from NHK World as it seemed the JAIF here in Japan was using them and as they are a resource the governemnt was using to get information out and other reasons it seemed the right decision. Had to start someplace and that was the decision. Of course, there is a heck of a lot of information from all sorts of folks, but using NHK for information releases can't be all bad. I have archived every day since March 11th except a few days I missed at the end of September because I screwed up and from November 16th through December 12th and that can't be gotten, according to correspondence I've had with them. They changed their computer filing system and I missed my chance because I got behind. Still I have hundreds of documents adding up to thousands of pages and I have audio recordings in the hundreds of relevant clips from the video clips. I did that because nobody on our small Team could do the ASK file conversion to a media storage system and all I needed was the audio, anyway. So what I am trying to make very clear is that if no university or other research organization has done this much archiving, I have. Now the thread from some months ago that caught my attention here seemed to have some former Navy folks posting that had done some work around power plants that had used nuclear fuel. Those folks seem to me to be possibly able to set me right on issues I may find as I now start putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. And here's the first piece/question. How close does a radiation monitoring device need to be to one of the stricken reactors at Fukushima Daiichi to be able to accurately let us know how much radiation is being emitted into the atmosphere? Another way to ask that is does radiation go straight up into the atmosphere? Thank you. [/quote]
