its very simple.
you don't need to convince an individual person of anything except that the majority already feels that way. even if they don't.
the person will, in 95% of cases (made up figure), side with what they believe the majority believes, without actually knowing whether or not the majority believes it. Even if it is entirely contradictory to what that specific individual is actually experiencing.
