BECAUSE BELIEFS ARE EMBEDDED IN AN EPIC STORY THAT IS BEYOND RATIONALITY AND HENCE, THEY ARE IMMUNE TO OBJECTIVE DEBATE.
Beliefs are accepted on the whole in the context of a story line and thus, they cannot be attacked individually without attacking the entire story line. But the story line is so sensational and beyond reason, than the beliefs cannot really be attacked at all - without attacking the faith of the believer in their acceptance of the storyline/fairy tale/fable - especially as the story line contains bigger than life figures who personify deeply embedded "truths" that carry the fairy tale across time and despite growth in all other areas of the culture - as personified "truth" caters to the primitive mind in the biggest ways that elevates the "truth" to "absolute" status - again - making the "truth" both irrefutable and unassailable, rendering any and all rational debate, moot. Which is why "believers" can only shake their heads and smile at "non-believers" as we "just don't get it" because we live outside the fairytale/myth - making us ignorant observers to the "true believer".
Interestingly though, beliefs CAN be debated by believers in a quasi-rational way from within the matrix of the belief system by employing the same motifs and buzz phrases that trigger the same meanings in the minds of "believers". But from the outside, a rational observer can readily see what is transpiring and how looping and irrational it all is - but there is no way to cause those within the loop to see and understand from an objective vantage point OUTSIDE the belief system as they first have no inclination to attempt to see things from outside the system and moreover, the tools they use to discuss and defend their beliefs are a function of the rhetoric that is the fairy tale, and thus can only be employed to assert the fairy tale.
Ergo: You can't debate beliefs rationally.
