Conventional theory is Al-Qaeda was behind the 911 attack that destroyed the twin towers. The Al-Qaeda group was linked to Afghanistan and Pakistan and possibly Iraq yet the United States went into Iraq first.
Logic dictates the United States should have attacked Afghanistan and Pakistan first.
We didn’t go directly after Pakistan because they have nukes. We have currently put Pakistan on the back burner. Perhaps Pakistan will be next.
Afghanistan is a lawless and mostly backwards country. The uneducated citizens would have joined forces with Al-Qaeda and the war would have been totally un-winnable.
Iraq …. We kicked their ass in ’91 and the citizens of Iraq appeared to want the leadership ( Sadam Hussein) removed. Unfortunately after Kuwait was liberated we didn’t take out Sadam Hussein.
Exterminating terrorist worldwide requires a good plan. Logically The USA would want to set a good example and show the world that we will help repressed citizens with our technology and brute strength.
I believe the strategy of the Iraq war was to show the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan that the United States can be trusted to overwhelm the bad guys and NOT take their country as a war prize.
Iraq was supposed to be a simple in & out war. We didn’t count on the size and strength of the insurgency.
Currently Iraq still has US occupation but is not ruled by the US. This can be interpreted a number of ways but ultimately it is clear that the US isn’t interested in owning Iraq.
Iraq should serve as a model of freedom. Hopefully the good people of Afghanistan and Pakistan will see that the United States ultimately wants both countries to self govern and stop the terrorist bullshit on their own soil.
So the Iraq war was a logical place to start.
