Original Message I bet you’re touching your face right now. You might have your chin propped in your hand, a fingernail between your teeth, or rubbing eyes and noses… Those are habits we need to break--like yesterday!

On average, people touch their faces about 16 times an hour. Some people less, others as many as 100 touches per hour. Droplets that come from our mouths, noses and eyes end up on surfaces. When we touch those surfaces, we bring them back to our mouths, noses, and eyes. That's how transmission can occur.

Using tissues and having them on hand is always a good idea. Use them instead of your hand to open public doors, hold onto shopping carts, wipe your eyes, mouths, and noses. Flu germs don't penetrate our skin. They need to invade our eyes, noses or mouths which are usually put there by our own hands.

If we stay away from our faces, we eliminate a lot of the risk. [link to www.ksl.com]

Tips for Keeping hands away from face:

1. Keep your hands busy, I.e., using a stress ball or something else.

2. Wear Clean Gloves. It works.

3. Reward yourself. Set a goal and reward yourself.

4. Get your household members involved. Ask them to monitor you and let you know.

5. Don't give up. Always try again if you fall off. Perseverance plays a big role in dumping any habit.

BONUS: The “right” way to wash hands with soap and water:
1. Wet your hands with clean running water and apply soap. Use warm water if it is available.
2. Rub hands together to make a lather and scrub all surfaces.
3. Continue rubbing hands for 15 seconds.
4. Rinse hands well under running water.
5. Dry your hands using a paper towel or air dryer. If possible, use your paper towel to turn off the faucet.
