[quote:mael:MV8xODU1NTEwXzMwOTU1MDY5XzYyMjAyMjZG] I wanted to give someone a karma point, and then I realized I didn't know how to do it. There isn't a big button to click on which flashes and says "do you want to give someone a karma point?" ... So I'll ask that question on my thread where I asked how to use the karma points system and what it was for... I didn't ask about how to give points because I imagined it would be obvious... Well it probably is obvious but I'm dense sometimes. What I wanted to do was to see why AB had so many gween karma points. Convinced as I am that AB is as popular as a gaseous rectal emission at a funeral, I wondered if the system was being abused so that shills would all give each other green karma points so they wouldn't stand out because most others would give them neg karma. So I had a look - and I see that as I thought, almost everyone views his shillery worthy of red karma points. Then I looked and saw loads and loads of rows of double green karma points, and they were given because he had reported a post for abuse. Well 'abuse' is a seriously abused term, so I gather AB is just reporting as many posts he thinks he can pass off as abuse to someone who sympathises with the wretch in admin. I thought it is rather too easy to be less than cordial with AB owing to his unfortunate character here. Anyway, I think that getting HUNDREDS of green karma points for reporting alleged abusive posts, when in fact that doesn't represent karma at all, is abusing the system. Without those dubiously won green karma points, AB would have red karma falling off the left side of the bar. Karma for being a snitch? More than likely those allegedly abusive posts were rebuttles to his own unfortunate literary style, and he likes to dish it out and not receive it. This isn't the forum for this - I'll paste this in a new thread. I just thought going through pages and pages here finding AB whining on and on with his ignorant shilling pablum and he has all those green karma points? Very strange I thought - well now I see why! Obviously he has picked up this trick of hiding the fact his literary offerings are not received well over time because it wasn't too long ago I would see his posts and notice his karma graph was well into the red. I have never understood how the karma system works. I thought I'd pick it up, but I still don't fully understand it.
For example I see I have 5 karma points I can use. Does this mean I have five karma points I can give to people - either in a negative way or a positive one? - And if I use those five points, will I just run out and not be able to give any more?
I seem to have a nett amount of around ten positive karma points, so does this mean I can use those to give to people and lose those points on my tally? (Can I give my neg karma points away as well)?
I don't really see the point of the karma system. Is it something like:- if I give points away, I'll get other points given to me by the system, and not giving any away means I can't get any more?
If someone can bring me up to date on what the karma system is all about I will try to see if I can participate in a useful way.
* Can I see who exactly gave me the points?
And... How is the system abused (if it is)? What are the obvious problems - if any - associated with the karma points system.
