Original Message SEOUL — North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was named as marshal of the country's army, completing his control over the state and military, North Korean media reported on Wednesday.

The decision to make the young leader the highest ranked military officer was made on Tuesday and came after the country's top general was sacked on Monday.

On Monday, North announced that Ri Yong-ho, the chief of the military's general staff, was removed from all his posts because of unspecified "illness."

This came as a surprise as Ri has been considered to have played a key role in new North Korean leader Kim Jong Un taking over the regime after his father Kim Jong-il's death.
