I did research funded by DARPA in the 1980s and believe you would find it boring and irrelevant and not at all sinister. DARPA has many many irons in the fire. My guess is that the closest we'll ever get to a connection between Holmes Senior and Holmes Junior lies in that pressure to excel in a cut-throat environment (academia) that drives some young people over the edge.
