"It is God who created us. It is he who feeds us and enables us to live. We therefore cannot exist outside of God, and no creature is truly independent of him. The feeling of independence which some people experience exists only in their mind. In fact, it is possible for people to ignore or voluntarily sever the bond that unites them with the Creator, but as a result they gradually die spiritually.
Some will say: ‘But God is in the heavens, and we are on earth; we are so far from him!’ No, I’m afraid this is no argument, for the reality of our link with God depends on our state of consciousness. God is in the heavens, but why shouldn’t we, while living here and now on earth, be with him in heaven at the same time? Yes, this is the state of consciousness we must each attain."
