QUEENSLAND could become the first Australian state to ban solariums to protect people from skin cancer.

Queensland Health Minister Lawrence Springborg says there's no doubt solariums present a health and safety issue.

"The links to skin cancer are so strong, and solariums have had some truly devastating impacts on users," he told AAP.
"We're certainly preparing the groundwork for a phasing out of solariums," he told AAP.

"We'll eventually move towards a full ban."
