[quote:Texan Buckeye:MV8yMTQ3NjczXzgxMzcxMzg4X0YwMzMyNThE] Wow! That's almost exactly what my mom and dad went through. Dad couldn't walk, he kept falling, so mom had to stay home or get my brother to stay for a few hours. She was very active in an organization that I won't name. They go nuts here about them. She would go different places with a couple of friends that were members, too. She stopped when dad got worse. She said it was that, but I don't think it was all that anymore. She was VERY good at hiding what was going on. How they handle their meds is something to be a hawk about. Mom only took a couple, but she would forget to take them or take them too often. I started out writing day or nighttime on them. That worked for about 2 weeks. Then I got her a pill box. That only kind of worked. Mom was what they call a sundowner. They told me that's why she went to bed when it got dark. The problem was she'd get up, get dressed about 1 am or soo, thinking it was morning. She'd take her morning pills and go back to sleep. Then, when she'd get back up in the morning she'd look for them in the box and panic or get mad when they weren't there. She'd call me and chew me out on side and down the other. She all but said my brother and I were trying to make her crazy. It took a long time for her to understand what was happening. I'm not sure she really did, she just gave up. Thankfully, she wasn't on anything that would hurt her if she took it twice or skipped every other day. There's a ton more, but this is already a wall of text so I'll stop for now. Flav, the best advice I can give you is just love your mom fiercely. Dementia patients can live a very long time and still be "gone". Take advantage of the time you have with her NOW. You'll be glad you did. [/quote]
