Okay, this is going to be long but it has to be in order to get accurate feedback. Thanks for reading. I've been at the same company for 23 years doing clerical work (desk job)in a quiet office with one supervisor. There are two other girls with the same job title but working the other 2 shifts. I have 4-5 years seniority on them. We have certain tasks we all do the same and some are different.
About a year ago I was told I have to spend my last two hours going to the main office and help answering phones. Well recently there has been downsizing coming from HR. Many jobs are being phased out and long term employees have been bumped into other positions at different branches supposedly due to computerized advances. Apparently my job is safe but they have moved me from my desk to a counter/computer terminal in the main office. So now it has changed from a couple hours to being expected to answer phones the whole time. Simply because ONE of the supervisors in there asked me to.
The problems are these: 1.)I am still expected to get my other work done at the same time...which requires thought, calculator, and data entry. 2.) I was told the other clerks are required to do the same and so far 4 months later, that has not happened. In fact, they moved the other woman to a quiet office upstairs. She does the phones 1 hour of her shift 3.) I am essentially being bumped into a new position (taking over where the other girl has left) without the proper channels of doing so or even being told outright. 4.) I'm a highly sensitive introverted person with ADD (gotta love it lol) and I find myself going there and leaving there very depressed and anxious.
Now the boss had asked me a month ago if I could work 2 hours later that week and I told him I had to get up too early, and then just last week he says "Are you ever going to be able to stay later when I need you, like next week maybe?" Okay that puts even more pressure because I already work till midnight AND to be stuck in a chair, glued to phones for even longer periods of time will make me go stir crazy and I know it! It's just not what I signed up for, it's not a good fit for me having to switch gears constantly.
Nobody understands, they say "Just be lucky you still have a job"...or "don't you want the extra hours it's more money."
