Did the USSR really collapse? Has the new USSR been working with Islamist terrorists?

According to the news, it seems that Russia and the US are at total odds on attacking Syria.
I got to thinking about how it seems odd that that Putin and other former FSB and KGB and Communist Party members have been the ones in control of Russia. In fact the United Russia Party (Putin's party) comes from the Fatherland-All Russia party, who were bent on restoring the Soviet/Communist bureaucracy back to power. Putin still visits with the Communist Party in Russia. He's put out a school textbook that will teach a whitewashed history of Stalin.
So then my next thinking is then: did the Soviet Union really collapse or did it just undergo a bit of a transformation? Was it a phony collapse designed to lull the rest of the world into the communist sphere?
It seems like the US, the EU, many countries around the world are now at the very least socialist, if not state-centrally planned economies. The militaries of the West have been bogged down in these wars now in the Mideast and North Africa and what has been the benefit for the average citizen?
So I'm throwing this idea out there (and it's backed up by this link below from an interview with the defector Litvinenko who was assassinated back in the mid 2000s).
It seems like Islamist terror didn't really kick in to high gear until the late 1970s, and then it was also carried out by groups that considered themselves Marxist more than Islamist.
So was the Soviet Union "collapse" a long drawn out plan designed to fool the West? Have they helped finance and train Islamist terrorists so that the US and West is drawn into Vietnam style wars that have now ended up creating such massive debt and perhaps military weakness, war weariness at home, that the West is now ripe for a takeover by the new Russia?

or are Islamist terrorists just that - people bent on jihad and sharia, and more funded by Qatar and other governments and organizations looking to build an Islamist superpower?
However, for many years, the marxists of the USSR were very active in the middle east like with Nasser in Egypt and the leaders before the Assad family in Syria.

The fly in the ointment for my above theory though is Syria. Since Russia is allied with Syria and Iran as a counterbalance to the Sunnis and Arabs, and being that I'm convinced that Barack Obama is a marxist - why would he split with Putin, if Putin is friendly to marxists?
