Original Message In effect as of April 15, 2013, the EPA has issued DRASTICALLY REVISED Protective Action Guides, in which Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) in drinking water are increased several thousandfold, amongst other measures to reduce our protections in the event of nuclear accidents or incidents.

SUMMARY OF EPA's PAG REVISIONS:

We are currently within the period open to "public comment." Express your OUTRAGE via the links on EPA's official website:

In these PAGs, EPA proposes "five options for drinking water, all of which would dramatically increase the permitted concentrations of radioactivity in drinking water, by as much as 27,000 times," amongst other drastically weakened protection measures, with respect to cleanup requirements or relocation/evacuation rubrics, in the event of large-scale radiological release.

These PAG revisions follow on the heels of the National Council of Radiation Protection & Measurement's (NCRP) 587-page draft report of February 2013 ("Not to be referenced or disseminated"), in which the council recommends hiking the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs, e.g. in our air, soil and drinking water) and permissible quantities of radiation that a person can "safely" be exposed to, several thousandfold, so that 1 in 6 will be susceptible to cancer rather than the EPA's longstanding baseline of 1 in 10,000.

This NCRP (highly technical) draft report is here: [link to www.ncrponline.org]

Here is a public comment, DECRYING THE NCRP REPORT as "immoral" and "profoundly unethical"

I believe these horrifying and morally reprehensible recommendations and actions by the NCRP and EPA are being enacted due to the EXISTING radiological EMERGENCY unfolding at Fukushima, as a PREEMPTIVE measure...

... so that when the government finally does admit the increasing presence of radionuclides accumulating in the USA's environment (atmospherically and oceanically) falling out via rain, collecting in soil, ruining agricultural produce, concentrating in seafoods, etc., they can truthfully claim that levels are WAY BELOW what is considered SAFE... without mentioning that those safety levels were multiplied by factors of several thousand and are therefore highly questionable!

EPA dismantled its RADNET radiation monitoring network shortly after Fukushima began its meltdown, in May 2011.

This DRASTIC PAG REVISION by the EPA received hardly any media attention!!! SPREAD THE WORD, GET PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are being Fuk-ed.
