Original Message The place: ISON was discovered is in Kislovodsk, Russia. Kislovodsk translates as "sour waters".

The person: ISON was discovered by Vitaly Nevsky and Artyom Novichonokne.

Artyom is a name derived from Artemisios. Artemisia is a large, diverse genus of plants with between 200 and 400 species. Common names for various species in the genus include mugwort, wormwood, and sagebrush.

Usually comets are named after the discoverer. Why not this time? A little too obvious perhaps?
