We had a good visit, although brief. We went to the Arch to see the newly renovated grounds and museum (just recently completed). Unfortunately it was a steady rain, cold, windy and foggy-ish all day, so I didn't get the pics I wanted. It was a brutally long walk from where we parked - the arch grounds are big and it's not like you can park right on top of it. But they did a good job on the renovations, it looks nice down there. I have a zillion photos of the arch from over my lifetime as you can imagine, so it's not a bit deal I didn't get the pics, yet it still bugs me.
You think so? That leads to the museum under the arch, which has always been there but it's been majorly expanded. And that whole elliptical entrance in the pic you posted is new - used to be directly under the arch (can still exit there). The museum is also where you catch the tram to the top of the Arch. Which I will not do, as they cram way too many people into a claustrophobic death capsule. Here's info on the trams: https://www.gatewayarch.com/experience/#tram-ride-to-the-top This video below is almost 10 years old but no matter, because the tram capsule is the same. I have to focus on my breathing just watching this!
whoa! That's pretty cool. Dude said it was really swinging in the wind, with 30 mph gusts. I'd have to go in that thing if i'm ever in St. Louis
I accidentally deleted the OP of this thread during some glitch issues on GLP this morning (10/30/17).
I will be posting some useful links in the next post to make it easier for those posting so you don't have to scroll through a massive OP. :)
I had to delete the first two comments on this thread to do so, but wanted to keep them so I've put them below.

I also would like to mention that I know this thread has MANY pages and that it can be somewhat intimidating to join/chime in on a long standing thread as a new member/AC (I've experienced it when I first joined GLP), but we are a VERY welcoming group to those who newly join us. We are a small family of sorts who are all mostly interested in the same earth-related topics (quakes/solar/volcanoes/weather/etc.) and share info on each of those topics as well as 'off-topic' discussions. We genuinely care for one another here and even when we do not agree with each other, we ALWAYS respect each other.
I truly enjoy when new folks join us here. All that I ask is to show respect. :)
