[quote:Arnie:MV8yMzkxMDE5Xzc4MTY1MzY0XzdCNDdFREM2] I had the Hong Kong flu of 1968-early 1969 OMG, couldn't move for two weeks; headache / body ache / fog-horn cough / fever-sweats so that my hair matted to my head. Fiance saw to me, then I helped him through it. I went back to work after two weeks, but when I walked in, they said I looked hideous and sent me back home for another week of total weakness etc. Went back to work, still weak but clumsily functional for another couple weeks. This was an A-type flu from Hong Kong, killed over a million people worldwide, and some 35,000 in the U.S. Everyone was coughing for more than 3-4 months afterward. There was no panic buying or anything like is going on now. A couple flu's around the mid-70's were also severe, I remember the headaches, and one of them I'm pushing a barf bucket around on the floor trying to get to the toddlers who were also sick. OMG If I get anything like this now it will be bye-bye cruel world.. :laur: [/quote]

I accidentally deleted the OP of this thread during some glitch issues on GLP this morning (10/30/17).
I will be posting some useful links in the next post to make it easier for those posting so you don't have to scroll through a massive OP. :)
I had to delete the first two comments on this thread to do so, but wanted to keep them so I've put them below.

I also would like to mention that I know this thread has MANY pages and that it can be somewhat intimidating to join/chime in on a long standing thread as a new member/AC (I've experienced it when I first joined GLP), but we are a VERY welcoming group to those who newly join us. We are a small family of sorts who are all mostly interested in the same earth-related topics (quakes/solar/volcanoes/weather/etc.) and share info on each of those topics as well as 'off-topic' discussions. We genuinely care for one another here and even when we do not agree with each other, we ALWAYS respect each other.
I truly enjoy when new folks join us here. All that I ask is to show respect. :)
