Most notably, the GFS and European models—historically the most accurate—both still show a landfall at roughly tropical storm strength near Miami. The second-tier models, however, continue to produce truly amazing possibilities for later next week. The Canadian model, for one, takes Erika all the way up the East Coast for an eventual Sandy-like left-hook landfall in New Jersey (animation) next Friday. That possibility is in the realm of science fiction for now, but illustrates the point that Erika increasingly poses a real—though at the moment, slight—risk to virtually the entire East Coast next week." http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2015/08/27/tropical_storm_erika_hits_the_caribbean_threatens_florida_and_the_carolinas.html :hiding:
LOVELY!! /sarcasm JUST what we need up here in the NorthEast to start out our forecasted "Tumultuous winter"!! Unfortunately, I think S Florida is over-due for a tropical battering-and right now; that's where they're predicting. Although my daughter is further inland-near Orlando, as a fellow "trauma junkie", who works a busy ER, the little brat is excited... :hmm: :cool2:
Yeah I think it's unlikely that Erika would make its way up the coast.. we'll see. They did a good job on that Sandy track, but I think that track prediction started when Sandy was off Florida. Erika needs to get past a few hurdles to just make Florida as an organized storm on Sunday/Monday first. Was mainly teasing Simple about her storm wishes... hehe I think I heard that Florida hasn't had a hurricane make land for 10 years, does that sound right?
Adrenaline junkie. I was like that as a police dispatcher. I loved to be super busy with major events going on. Never liked the pain and suffering of others, don't get me wrong. rather it was pure adrenaline and you were so busy and working so hard, it was great. Weird I know
Believe me WA, I KNOW exactly what you mean. I miss it..heck, I miss my career, PERIOD!! I worked or volunteered in hospitals starting at age 12, and would do almost ANYTHING to go back!! I was going to sign-up for our hospital auxiliary-BUT, I was told that they "don't allow patient contact"-gift shop and cleaning up the cafeteria, occasionally helping to guide visitors-are ALL they do. I talked to Bill, (my primary doc, a friend AND the former COS of the hospital) and he said it's because of "liability" :sigh: Same thing when I asked him if I could start a "Teen volunteer" program there. Well, THAT, AND the fact they usually have a patient census of less than 20..... He says "when hell freezes over" OR if something massive were to happen in this area-he'll let me go back to work in the ER..... I TRIED to convince him that hell had frozen over last winter when we went for over a month with temps under 20deg. Obviously, it didn't work. SO, I'm relegated to driving his nurses & hospitalists crazy when I'm a patient. Actually, about 6 years ago, after a VERY nasty experience, (I had 2 broken shins and after being in the ER for over 9 HOURS, they refused to give me anything stronger than Tylenol, called me an "addict" and lectured me about how they weren't going to be "fooled" by my "drug-seeking tricks", was told that there was "no such disorder" as my genetic disorder AND accused me of breaking my legs just to get drugs--ALL DESPITE me having a valid prescription for the fentanyl patches I was on AND had brought my box of un-used patches with me-showing that I wasn't abusing them AND they had access to my medical records showing I'd been averaging 1-3 fractures/month because of severe osteoporosis...THEN, they waited until 3am to discharge me, called the police to tell me I couldn't "loiter" in the waiting room until I could get the taxi to pick me up at 6am, and was forced to hobble home on 2 casts, no crutches, in the snow, for over 1/2 mile!!), he brought me into a "Mandatory Inservice" for ALL employees and educate them on my genetic disorder and similar disorders and proper ways to tell if someone is actually seeking narcotics...basically, myself and another good friend, who was the only local psychiatrist at the time, gave these folks a crash course on ethics and disabilities. The supervisor RN who'd treated me like shit that morning, made a spectacle at the Inservice, said I'd lied about my background and anyone who stayed & listened was "a fool". She tore up the handout on my genetic disorder-a paper that I'd written with a genetic Doc from Johns Hopkins and was actually published in 1996-a year and a half into Medical School-and threw it in the trash. She wasn't welcomed back-she lost her job & refused to apologize. I've had some problems since then with people who resent me for that whole thing-so I TRY and AVOID going to this local ER as much as possible. I doubt working there would be a really happy experience. :( I STILL have HOPE though, that ONE DAY, in SOME capacity, I'll be able to use my skills and knowledge again in some aspect of patient care!!
Worked an ER for two years as and EMT 2, and was planning to go for Physician Assistant (no way was I going to spend that much time to be a doctor) but burned out in one day. Won't go into it but it was BAAAAAAD. Still love all things medical, especially natural medicine and just seem to have a natural ability in understanding it. Retired now and happy caking!
I accidentally deleted the OP of this thread during some glitch issues on GLP this morning (10/30/17).
I will be posting some useful links in the next post to make it easier for those posting so you don't have to scroll through a massive OP. :)
I had to delete the first two comments on this thread to do so, but wanted to keep them so I've put them below.

I also would like to mention that I know this thread has MANY pages and that it can be somewhat intimidating to join/chime in on a long standing thread as a new member/AC (I've experienced it when I first joined GLP), but we are a VERY welcoming group to those who newly join us. We are a small family of sorts who are all mostly interested in the same earth-related topics (quakes/solar/volcanoes/weather/etc.) and share info on each of those topics as well as 'off-topic' discussions. We genuinely care for one another here and even when we do not agree with each other, we ALWAYS respect each other.
I truly enjoy when new folks join us here. All that I ask is to show respect. :)
