When we first got married we were very poor and bought a cardboard angel to top our first Christmas tree. It still tops the tree in the living room today although it looks like its been through the wars. One arm went missing in Italy so I made her another arm and sewed her a dress. Some people go Oooh and ahhh over our decorations until they see the angel then look confused. So of course we have to tell the story of how she got there. We both go right to the feels when we see her.
That's really great! Nothing wrong with being poor. Then when you get wealthier, you appreciate it more. I remember a great book I read about the depression, it was called "We had everything but money."
Its one of those things where we didn't know we were poor and if we did, we didn't care. We were scraping the barrel for a long time until both of us got through graduate school.
That's right, and it was what the book was about. They were all poor, and the kids didn't even realize it. They had a great life in spite of having no money.
I accidentally deleted the OP of this thread during some glitch issues on GLP this morning (10/30/17).
I will be posting some useful links in the next post to make it easier for those posting so you don't have to scroll through a massive OP. :)
I had to delete the first two comments on this thread to do so, but wanted to keep them so I've put them below.

I also would like to mention that I know this thread has MANY pages and that it can be somewhat intimidating to join/chime in on a long standing thread as a new member/AC (I've experienced it when I first joined GLP), but we are a VERY welcoming group to those who newly join us. We are a small family of sorts who are all mostly interested in the same earth-related topics (quakes/solar/volcanoes/weather/etc.) and share info on each of those topics as well as 'off-topic' discussions. We genuinely care for one another here and even when we do not agree with each other, we ALWAYS respect each other.
I truly enjoy when new folks join us here. All that I ask is to show respect. :)
