[quote:Etta:MV8yMzkxMDE5XzQzOTgwNDQ5X0RBQkE3QTVC] [quote:AKObserver:MV8yMzkxMDE5XzQzOTgwMTI2XzFBOTQwMkE3] hmmmm..... University of Washington launches effort to prepare Northwest region for 9.0 magnitude quake: Scientists fully expect that the coast of Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and part of northern California to see a magnitude nine subduction zone earthquake again. It’s been 314 years since the last one in January of the year 1700. Scientists know of this quake because of written reports from Japan that recorded a tsunami. The reports of a giant wave also correlate with rings in old trees killed when marsh land along the Washington coast dropped several feet, allowing sea water to envelope their roots. This week, scientists with the University of Washington gathered 55 experts from around the region. Their goal: to step up efforts to prepare for the next magnitude nine earthquake in the Northwest and the ensuing recovery. “That’s the critical part. To be prepared and then to bounce back.” said John Vidale, Washington state’s seismologist and head of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. Vidale moderated the event. The project is called M9, as in magnitude 9. But the lessons learned from it could be applied to any major natural disaster in Washington, a state that’s currently recovering from the landslide near Oso on March 22 that killed at least 41 people. http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/2014/04/26/university-of-washington-launches-effort-to-prepare-northwest-region-for-9-0-magnitude-quake/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I wish them luck. A freezing rain storm on top of snow had our power out at my place for over a week a couple of years back. I live close to Seattle, a few minutes. So...if the power company took that long for that, it'll probably be quite some time until things would be somewhat normal. If we're alive.
I accidentally deleted the OP of this thread during some glitch issues on GLP this morning (10/30/17).
I will be posting some useful links in the next post to make it easier for those posting so you don't have to scroll through a massive OP. :)
I had to delete the first two comments on this thread to do so, but wanted to keep them so I've put them below.

I also would like to mention that I know this thread has MANY pages and that it can be somewhat intimidating to join/chime in on a long standing thread as a new member/AC (I've experienced it when I first joined GLP), but we are a VERY welcoming group to those who newly join us. We are a small family of sorts who are all mostly interested in the same earth-related topics (quakes/solar/volcanoes/weather/etc.) and share info on each of those topics as well as 'off-topic' discussions. We genuinely care for one another here and even when we do not agree with each other, we ALWAYS respect each other.
I truly enjoy when new folks join us here. All that I ask is to show respect. :)
