Original Message ....or from the sky to the ground

Just got a call from a friend in a very excited state. He lives in Winston-Salem, NC. He was driving home at approximately 8:45PM when he looked north out of his side window and saw a huge pillar of rainbow light shooting either from the sky to the ground or the ground to the sky. He mentioned two clouds that were in the sky just before this happened. After the light was gone so were the clouds. I talked to him about Tesla technology and John Hutchinson and he just said he didn't know, although he knows about both of them.

He said it looked like an aurora borealis would look but was vertical up and down not across the sky. Would any of you know if there are any magnetic anomalies with the sun happening right now? I don't have time to research atm and though this might be the best place to post this sort of thing.
