Katy ISD released the following statement:.

"This evening we learned that the Uncle Ben’s manufacture recently issued a voluntary recall and that the allergic reaction some students experienced was likely due to a product within the rice. We are continuing to collect additional information and investigate the product modification that was made by the Uncle Ben rice manufacture that led to students’ food reaction today."

The district said they were not directly informed about the recall by Uncle Ben and they learned about it through an internet search.

“My friends were talking about it, and I asked them about it. One of the guys that was there said it actually happened to him,” said 10-year-old Sarah LaCroix.

Sarah LaCroix, a 4th grader at Wolman, did not eat the rice that sickened her classmates.
