He could barely hold a job as a cab driver.
Unfortunately, many serious conditions are blamed incorrectly on prior drug use, which often delays diagnosis. http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2013-08/fyi-can-acid-trip-really-give-you-flashbacks I don't think there's any question that HPPD is a genuine clinical phenomenon," says Charles Grob, a professor of psychiatry at UCLA's medical school who does research with hallucinogens. However, how many people are truly affected remains unknown. In a 2002 review of the scientific literature on HPPD over the last 50 years, psychiatrist John Halpern and his co-authors found most studies provided too little information to estimate the prevalence "even crudely" of HPPD in the population. "It is often unclear whether symptoms occurred exclusively following hallucinogen intoxication," they write. "It is also difficult to rule out other medical or psychiatric conditions that might cause 'flashbacks', including current intoxication with another drug, neurological conditions, current psychotic or affective disorders, malingering, hypochondriasis, or even other anxiety disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)." a large number of people are drawn to drug use as an effort to self medicate conditions they are developing or are already exhibiting. If you find yourself using any substance frequently, one of the first questions you should ask yourself is "why?" Drug use is all to often treated as the core problem, when it is only a symptom. An analysis of old studies suggests LSD may have a role to play in treating alcoholism.
The powerful hallucinogen LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) has potential as a treatment for alcoholism, according to a retrospective analysis of studies published in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
some more info in the blog...
