Endogenous Retroviruses -
ERV's are retroviruses that infect a hosts genome, they insert their dna into the genome of the host. If they insert their dna into a germ line cell the hosts offspring and their offspring etc will inherit the remnants of the ERV.
When 2 individuals get infected by ERVs, they will be in different locations. When they are inherited from parents, they will be in the exact same location as they were in the parent.
There are 3,000,000,000 possible locations for an ERV to be inserted into in the genome. Therefore the chance of 2 individuals being infected in the exact same location is 1 in 3,000,000,000.
Scientists have mapped the human and chimp genome. They have found that we share 200,000 endogenous retroviruses in the exact same location with the same mutations, through inheritance. Only 100 ERVs are lineage specific, meaning we "acquired" them after the split with our common ancestor with chimps. 300 Were lineage specific in chimps.
I don't know what the odds of a 1 in 3 billion event happening 200,000 times in 6000 years are... i am sure there would be a lot of zeros. This is also a major problem for evolution deniers who happen to believe an old earth as well. 200,000 1 in 3 billion events in 2 separate species of 200,000 identical ERVs would be a long shot no matter how many years you give it.
I know this is old news but some just do not want to know about it. So the best way to combat that is to keep putting it out there. Not many who accept evolution even know about this either.
