[quote:January Wolves:MV8yNTkxMzk4XzQ1MjEyMDUyX0ZEMTFEOTM0] The reason I have landline through AT&T is when power goes out the telephone still works if you have an old cord phone which I do - an old wall phone. But the cordless doesn't work when power is out which is fine as long as I have the cord phone. So since I had landline through AT&T I also signed up for their DSL. The contract was for 1 year & at the end of the year they tried to get me to upgrade to Uverse saying they are doing away with DSL and my new conract was for Uverse. Problem is they don't have Uverse installed for my area so gave me another year's contract for DSL and the landline until they get Uverse up here. But instead of paying the 19.95 I used to pay for DSL they are charging me the Uverse price of 36.00 for DSL even though they can't give me Uverse. AT&T is the worst company ever! Nothing but problems with them changing my service without telling me each year. All of a sudden I get a high bill (with no advance notice) and they give the reason because my contract is up. They are a bunch of scam artists. Never had a problem when it was PacBell. Have had constant problems with AT&T. The other problem is if I go to Uverse when they change to it in my area the old cord phone will no longer work when the power is out. Big problem for me because power goes out often. Was without power for 6 weeks once. There are many areas in these mountains where there is no cell reception either. GRRRR! All I want is an old fashioned landline! I'd even go back to dial-up to get it. So thanks for this thread, OP, because I will be leaving AT& T as soon as this current contract is up and have been wondering what options are out there. I highly recommend not even getting involved with AT&T. They are doing away with the old landline anyway & everything will be Uverse. [/quote]

We recently decided to finally get internet service (the last time I had it, I was a kid and had dial up) and decided to go ahead and get home phone service as well. I'm a stay at home mom with 2 kids and one on the way so a reliable phone is a must- I don't have a vehicle or any connections in a new town/state.... We went to ATT because they provided the cheapest price for the two services VS the local company Cox. They screwed up our order and gave us wireless home phone instead (i didnt even know that existed) so we had to bring it back, cancel that crap and had them get us real landline home phone. Which of course then they had to change our entire internet order as well because the first wasnt compatible with landline service. A few days later we got 2 boxes in the mail, which both had internet setup instructions... They sent us the (what i believe is) bad internet order parts and the updated current internet parts. We went to ATT and tried returning the wrong box, they said that we were supposed to get both boxes and sent us on our way. Today we got a bill in the mail for wireless home service for $50. So i called the number on th bill and got NO help. He said i have to call U Verse on Monday. Ive never even heard of U Verse?! Our service doesnt even get connected until the 14th, i am really fed up with ATT and our service hasnt even started yet.
So i am trying to find someone else but apparently Bellsouth got bought out by ATT and i have no idea who offers home phone landline service anymore? Google searches DONT help and Oklahoma no longer prints phonebooks from what I heard on the news a few months back. Can someone please help?
Im in central Oklahoma. Thank you in advance
