Original Message In the case of an EMP attack anything electronic will most likely be fried. Toast thats right your PC your laptop cell phone land line Cable tv is gone Power grid down for months Oh that 401k you been banking on just did an Enron Dive all your money 1's and 0's just a zero now! So this thread is for some discussion on making your own Faraday cage (or Faraday box) to protect items around your home. In essence, this is a “container” that
itself is conductive (e.g. steel), is “grounded” (e.g. has a wire attached,
which itself is attached to the buildings grounding system by being screwed to
an outlet, much like a 3-prong-to-2-prong plug adapter is supposed to be), and
is thoroughly insulated (e.g. lined with plastic, cardboard, or other
non-conductive material). Discussions of Faraday boxes included using anything
from metal filing cabinets & trash cans (that closed tightly) to small metal
boxes (e.g. metal 5x7 card file for watches, etc, on the bedside table, but also
that closed tightly). The simplest/ cheapest Faraday box is probably just a box
covered with foil and grounded, and with another box inside it where you put
your stuff. (Note: Grounding is not absolutely essential for a well-insulated
box, but increases its effectiveness dramatically
... if I remember my military training correctly.) Here’s a useful link:

BTW, my first experience with a Faraday cage was an entire metal building; and
since then they have included special rooms within buildings. Also, I have
heard of people storing a full set of replacement “chips” and stuff for their
cars, ignoring the fact that they don’t even have a clue where to put them (if
they had to replace them themselves) and the additional fact that an EMP burst
that “fries” their car’s electronics is likely to knock out every gas pump
around. So you see this can get out of hand.

Before you (or anyone else) go overboard in coming up with protection, take
time out to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Remember, the primary target in an
EMP attack is neither your battery-operated watch nor the “smart chip” in your
brand new refrigerator. Anyone launching an EMP attack would be more interested
in knocking out power grids … so even your old-fashioned hotplate (which is just
wires and an on/off switch) won’t work.

Practical steps include having some kind of home Faraday box, and storing in
it items such as a battery-operated radio with batteries separately stored –
items which you would be using for an emergency (such as a hurricane,
earthquake, tornado, etc) and which you could even grab-and-go, if necessary.
Have an alternative way of cooking your food, such as wood/charcoal for your
fireplace, or a camp stove and fuel. (Don’t forget matches.) If you’re in the
market for a new watch anyway, you might consider looking for an “automatic”
one: these used to be called “self-winding” watches, and are easier to find that
an old-fashioned wind-it-yourself model, today. (If you’re not in the market
for that watch anyway, pray first. There may be a better place to put that $150
or so that it would cost … such as a good backpack for your “bug out” kit.)

Most important practical step: Remember who God is, and don’t live in fear.
