[quote:Kay 72054:MV8yNjY0MTBfNDcwMDQ0Ml84Njk5NzBFRg==] [quote:Naturyl] KayKayKay, Laugh all you want. You are you and I am me. That's really all I need to know. I'm just as happy with that as you are, so it's all good. Your feeble insults are wasted on me. You have no resort but to claim that I said Christianity "invented" slavery and polygamy, when you know very well I didn't. Semantics is all you have now, and that is weaker than weak. Christianity did not "cause" slavery or polygamy. It only *supported* such things for many centuries. If you think the fact that you didn't invent it excuses you from supporting it, you not only have a lot to learn about logic, you've got a lot to learn about morality and common sense. No matter how your try to weasel out of reality, the fact is, you guys have had it. Not only here, but in the world at large, and in history. Your time is almost over, and there couldn't be better news for the world. :smile_hear:
This doesn't change the fact that you tried to say that Christianity did 'cause' slavery and polygamy. And I already cut and pasted your answer. Now, you are trying to weasel out of the fact that you said it, by saying, "Oh, well I didn't really mean...." Here, I have to say it again. CHRISTIANITY NEVER SUPPORTED POLYGAMY. NEVER ONE DAY. And here you are, saying the Christian Church doesn't deserve applause because it took too long to remove these poisons from our society. Odd logic that. Per this logic, we shouldn't bother fixing our world because we didn't before! So, there you go again, as Ronald Reagan would say. You didn't consider my idea earlier posted (which you ignored) that since it is easier for a rich man to get through an eye of a needle than to be a Christian, perhaps there were not a great many slaver owners in their ranks? ie. most Christians WERE the slaves. And we didn't really debate because all you did is whine, "Oh the Dark Ages!", "Oh the Crusades!" which is the usual standard fare. Nothing evil is really specified that is attributed solely against the Christian Church except existing in a time period in a world long ago that we, in a personal way, have no knowedge of. The Dark Ages and The Crusades are always compared to today's society, which makes those times seem very barbaric indeed, but when you compare Christiandom to say, the Vikings, or their Asian counterparts, or the Mayan or African, Christian society seems meek, indeed. Massacre, human child sacrifice, temple prostitution, were consistent rites performed with societal approval. But we can't have that! Goodness, we might end up comparing oranges to oranges or something like that! We might end up comparing another Dark Ages culprit, Islam to Christianity! Mohammed's followers, who went on the rampage during the 7th and 8th century all over Europe, conquering the land of the infidel until the infidel had plenty, thank you very much, and began to fight back instead of continuing to turn the other cheek, both figuratively and in a physical sense. Finally, the horde of sackers and pillagers (such were the norm you know in those days - due to feudalism - a person must eat!) were stopped somewhere in the sunny side of France and the Mohammedians were pushed back through Spain to finally remove them from European soil. Probably the plague is what truly wiped out the so much of the known world, leaving the name "Dark" because so little was written during that time. It is hard to write history when you are suffocating in your own blood, I suppose. Also during this time would be countless inner continental wars between France and England, ending with the Bastards' invasion of Normandy, ending Harald's Saxony rule in 1066 - right around the end of the Dark Ages. But of course, if we discussed all that, you might even have to use your noodle, something you do not do here, you think simply heckling another poster and trying to twist semantics or embarrass them is the way to have a 'debate'. Actually, it is impossible to do so without both parties summoning a touch of effort to some extent. Again, something you haven't done. I've proven the known beneficial effect of the Christian Church upon society in general, and all you have done is compare apples to oranges. Christianity hasn't 'had it' as you say. Remember Jesus' words about the gates of hell not prevailing against it. If Christianity isn't doing well it is because it has grown fat and lazy on it's accomplishments of the past. We do much when persecution is present in society, for some reason known only to God, himself. I have no doubt it is coming around, thanks to people like you. You have seen in your lifetime (I assume you are of a generation with persecuted MLK Jr) the results of Christians working to make society better, and you will see it again. As in the past, it will prove to be the shining light of mankind.
Kind of embarrassing for the modern right-wing church. I guess that's why they ignore most of what Jesus actually taught and focus mainly on his sacrifice and death.
"Passion of the Christ," anyone? Right-wingers loved it, because deep down, they enjoy seeing a peace-loving leftist who championed the poor sacrificed for the sake of the audience. The more torture, the better - it's what they'd secretly (or openly) like to do to all progressives.
Christianity is a death cult. It's all about the brutal killing of a wise and compassionate man for the sake of buying unwise and uncompassionate people a free ticket to "everlasting paradise."
Christianity? No thanks. Jesus wouldn't approve.
