Original Message You have all missed the forest from the trees on this one.

Thomas Duncan fled from Africa knowing he likely had contracted ebola. He headed straight for the place most likely to save his life America. If we had closed off all flights from the western African nations people like Duncan who can afford to fly here will instead fly to south America then head north by land. This would lead to mass exposure in south America where it would likely spiral out of control. The pandemic would drive millions more to our borders many of whom will carry the Ebola virus with them.

Once the carriers go active it would spread through the illegal immigrant population and leave irrefutable proof that closing the southern border is our only option. This pandemic would also cause most of the population to become anti immigrant and Obama and the democrats would suffer a political groundswell crushing any chances of a democratic presidency for at least 20+ years.

In short it would be political suicide and make the pandemic worse quicker.
