Original Message A few days ago someone posted about Aspartame (Nutrisweet) being useful as an ant poison. I was intrigued, and tested. Here are my results:

I purchased a box of "NutraTaste" (house brand) sweetener. Ingredients: Destrose with Maltodextrin, Aspartame. This was a box of 120 packets of sweetener, for two bucks or so.

The ants have been running amok in the yard this summer, so active ant hills were easy to find. I selected one with lots of activity, including a thick stream of ants travelling to some other hill somewhere else. These are small, black ants.

I moistened the ground with about an ounce of water, then sprinkled one pack of sweetener around the anthill.

Within a few minutes the ants were boiling out to grab the sweetener and take it down into the hole.

This morning I checked again. There were some ants, but not as many.

This afternoon I checked again. I waited for a few minutes and saw one (1) ant.

Looks like this stuff works!

I will be trying on more ant hills and will report back.
