Both pics leave a lot to the imagination. I suppose if there was anything of a mindblowing nature there then DAWN would probably not have made it this close. Still the pic you put up makes it look like the wee planet might have already been mined extensively. There is always something interesting and new about each large body we explore. Like the dunes on that comet or asteroid. That was wild looking. Maybe Ceres is an abandoned space station. [/quote]

Check out this amazing new closer shot of Ceres as DAWN approaches.

What is the giant reflective white spot?
Is there symbolic meaning to the name of the Spacecraft?
Are we about to discover a glimmering crystal dome base? An enormous radar dish that is jamming spiritual and technological communication from Earth? Could it be an enormous weapon? Or might it be the freshest trace of an ongoing mining operation? Is that giant crater well below the white dot an opening to the inside of a space station?
What's the lore with Ceres?
And courtesy of NASA for those of you who don't know:
“You may not realize that the word ‘cereal’ comes from the name Ceres. Perhaps you already connected with the dwarf planet at breakfast today," said JPL's Marc Rayman, Mission Director and Chief Engineer of the Dawn mission.
