The LHC will start its engine on 13/03/2015, meaning beams will start staggered circulation in a super cooled environment, through selected areas of the machine.

On the week beginning 23/03 the beam will be circulated through the entire machine, and begin its long rotation passage.

this process lasts a little over a month and will bring beams to near the speed of light.
the beams will reach this speed around the start of May.
providing all goes to plan the beams will then be set on a collision course 14/05 for high energy collisions 27/05.

It is hoped these collisions will be at Tev-13, but the press statement in 4 or so hours or so will confirm this.

id expect it to be announced collisions will occur at a reduced energy level 27/05, with Tev-13 collisions being set in motion after a power injection around 18/06 and 14/08, with collisions at Tev-13 14/09.

Detection Of Mini Black Holes At The LHC Could Indicate Parallel Universes In Extra Dimensions

A great research paper published in Physics Letters B regarding the LHC and the physics around it has been released today.
Written by Ahmed Farag Ali, Mir Faizal, and Mohammed M. Khalil, the info can be found here in a great read up from Phys.org...

The LHC is a machine that was designed for many experiments, not just one.
The Higgs Boson was just the start.
Particle Collisions at energy's the LHC is capable of, opens the door for experiments into ideas that extend beyond the Higgs Field....
That even stray into the realm of Sci-Fi.

The amazing experiments CERN is a part of can be found here

The LHC was built to test many theorized idea's and structures in a search for a more unified view on the standard model, Quantum Mechanics and as some put it...A Grand Unified Theory Of Everything!

'String Theory', 'The Multi-verse', 'The Many Worlds Theory' and 'Parallel Dimensions' are all idea's that have erupted from the attempts to unify old physics with new physics.
But all these ideas have one thing in common, Multiple trails of existence, running parallel to each other, that are not yet understood.
This is defiantly Physics staying into the realm of Sci-Fi as never before!!

Spinets from the report

The possibility that other universes exist beyond our own universe is tantalizing,

Shiva

Seen loads of people posting about the Shiva statue outside of CERN...

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

"The two most common forms of Shiva's dance are the Lasya (the gentle form of dance), associated with the creation of the world, and the Tandava (the violent and dangerous dance), associated with the destruction of weary worldviews – weary perspectives and lifestyles. In essence, the Lasya and the Tandava are just two aspects of Shiva's nature; for he destroys in order to create, tearing down to build again."

Scientists who normaly pit there minds against the symptoms of the universe have a slightly more humble problem to deal with....
How to remove a problemtic metal shard that has delayed the LHC restart.

Xray scans have shown the problem at hand, so whats the fix?

Less than 50%

'The team is exploring two remote fixes. The first involves a high-tech version of the compressed air cans you might use to clean muck from inside your computer keyboard. The LHC's magnets are cooled by liquid helium, so it may be possible to turn the helium into a gas and blow it through the system to dislodge the metal. "One of the disadvantages is, the best you can hope for is you move the piece of material, hopefully somewhere it doesn't cause any problems,"'

'The other fix is a bit more dramatic. The material is acting like a fuse, so it may be possible to blow that fuse by overloading it with electric current, burning it up in the process and removing the problem. "We're investigating exactly what would be required," says Collier. "We think it is perfectly safe."'
