ESL is English Sign Language. Other countries have different sign language. Where is your confusion?
Op asked a question. We don't all know the same things :-)
I wasn't trying to be offensive, I honestly didn't know what the question he was asking was. I really wasn't sure what he was confused about. BTW, I think my IP changed, because I'm on my cell phone, lol. The way he phrased the question was a little offensive, though. Maybe it was the language he chose. Anyways, what the above poster mentioned about infants is true. It's also helpful for individuals with disabilities who can't use verbal speech. My son has speech apraxia, and we used sign language a lot in his infancy and toddlerhood. The words are the same words that are used in the English language, not just spelling them out (although you can do that also). But it's no different than English (but I wasn't totally fluent on it, so I wasn't as nuanced). It helps develop the language centers of the brain, for those who even have neurological disorders (like speech apraxia). We don't use it so much anymore, since his verbal language has much improved :) But it activates the same language centers of the brain as spoken speech :)
So?
I for some reason always thought deaf sign language is like, 'english, with hands'.
How does this work? Can people from different countries who know sign language really communicate?
