Original Message World War II
Vintage Photography

Imagine unlocking a time capsule of the world as it was during World War II. Photographer Levi Bettwieser did just that when he came across 31 undeveloped rolls of film with labels spanning locations from Boston Harbor to Le Havre. The photos were taken by an unidentified American soldier stationed in Europe during the war. Bettwieser's painstaking work of processing the images is captured in Tucker Debevec's short documentary, which showcases some of the incredible prints.

The Short Film Showcase spotlights exceptional short videos created by filmmakers from around the web and selected by National Geographic editors. We look for work that affirms National Geographic's mission of inspiring people to care about the planet. The filmmakers created the content presented, and the opinions expressed are their own, not those of the National Geographic Society.

Know of a great short film that should be part of our Showcase? Email [email protected] to submit a video for consideration.
