He won the elections promising to keep our currency exchange stable. IN those times we had a fully convertible argentinian peso called "convertibilidad". 10 years of a fixed exchangee rate of 1 peso = 1 US dollar. a very strong currency. just like the greeks...
This expensive argentinian peso + extreme corruption and deficits bankrupted Argentina in 2001.
But the retarded argentina voted in that year 1999 for a President who promised the people staying with an artifitial low exchange rate.
With a strong argentinian peso, middle class felt rich.
THE COST: a total collapse in the industrial capacity. just like in Greece now.And a total collapse in 2001 , bankruns, devaluation, bank holidays., deposit cuts. Deposits in US dollars confiscated .
NOW THE GREEks FEEL "SECURE" IN TH EURO ZONE. but the price for staying there is PENSION CUTS, MORE TAXES....AUSTERITY.
