Remember what happened to the guy who headed up Diaspora, the anti-Facebook social media site built around privacy? http://news.nationalpost.com/news/22-year-old-founder-of-anti-facebook-diaspora-social-media-site-found-dead
Correct. If their revenue stream is disrupted or the levers of control are under attack, people seem to die mysteriously under strange circumstances.
I think you are right. Entrepreneurship that threatens profits or existing paradigms is under attack. Also, a guy invented some devise that would completely encrypt Internet activity in a massively effective way. The day before his public introduction of the device at some security conference, he just tweeted that the whole project was shut down - indefinitely . No reason. No more info. WTF. These bright start-ups are shut down if they in anyway threaten the existing power structure. Sorta like JP Morgan and colleagues during the rise of the industrial age. I hate this part of humanity. It never changes. It destroys lives and it hinders human progress. Imagine where we would be if everyone who was killed or squashed for their inventions actually was able to fulfill their dreams. Imagine where we would be technologically and in every field...it's heartbreaking.
Insightful post. There is a moratorium on human creativity in virtually every aspect of life right now, the business/entrepreneurial world is no exception. I'm not religious, but we are under the spell of some sort of evil right now. It must be stopped. The human race will not only not advance and make necessary discoveries, it will not survive unless things change dramatically. It's saddening when I look at the creative prospects and potential brilliance of the may young people I know going to waste. I wish better things for them.
