AN ENORMOUS exposed fault line beneath Mount Everest is threatening to trigger ANOTHER cataclysmic earthquake with the force to MOVE the world's tallest mountain and bring disaster to Nepal.
Experts have warned the earthquake that hit Nepal in April released only a small portion of the stress built up along the fault line and that another eruption, even bigger than the first, is set to occur. Everest was estimated to have moved three centimetres southwest when the first Nepal quake struck, another larger disaster will force the mountain to nudge even FURTHER.
The study, published today in Nature Geoscience, used synthetic radar imagery and seismological measurements to analyse the April 15 tragedy.
