Did Boehner really decide to resign on his own,or was he 'coaxed' because of his inability to control his emotions?

The fact that we are on the verge of another potential government shutdown with debts bigger then ever;and Yellen suggesting there might be a interest rate hike by December,might suggest things are heating up.
