Original Message Here's something to read, it's from [link to www.globalissues.org]

It was among the links that Trin put up while the GLP forums were down. Read this as a small introduction if you're not sure whether you want to spend your time reading it all or not, it should convince you. :

"US Senate votes to rollback habeas corpus, use torture, and provide immunity for US officials from torture prosecution

September 29, 2006, the US Senate agreed to the Military Commissions Act of 2006 which gives US President George Bush unprecedented power to detain and try people as part of their “War on Terror.” President Bush is then expected to sign the Act into law. Broadly, the new Act does 3 things:

1. Strips the right of detainees to habeas corpus (the traditional right of detainees to challenge their detention);

2. Gives the US President the power to detain indefinitely anyone—US or foreign nationals, from within the US, and from abroad—it deems to have provided material support to anti-US hostilities, and even use secret and coerced evidence (i.e. through use of torture) to try detainees who will be held in secret US military prisons;

3. Gives US officials immunity from prosecution for torturing detainees that were captured before the end of 2005 by US military and CIA."

Where's the media? I doubt this was extensively covered, and it is of great importance.

Soon perhaps, if not already, the simple act of protesting against the US government and its ways could get you arrested. "Either you're with us, or you're with the terrorists." Do you remember these words that Bush said soon after 9/11? You can hear him say it in the video One Nation Under Siege to which there's a link below.

This new Act gives arbitrary power to the President, and along the Patriot Act, the constitutional rights of every US citizens are really potentially at stake, along international treaties and the Geneva Conventions.

Power is being concentrated in fewer hands (in two hands, more precisely), and this has never proven to be good before, and neither has it been a good prelude.

Here are some new 9/11 videos posted around here lately.

Everybody's gotta learn sometime: [link to video.google.com]

Remember when Hitler rose to power? The Headquarters (compared to WTC for the US?) were attacked (staged attack?) and it was reported that a communist was found on place (today Al Qaeda hijackers?). Thus the blame was put on communists. Soon the Nazi's "Axis of Evil" included Jews, social democrats, and all others who would resist. The propaganda did its job, set in a climate of fear and even hatred towards communists and Jews, as today we see with Islamists. Bills such as those we see today in the US (Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act) were enacted, and Hitler finally gained total power over Germany. Maybe this whole comparison between Hitler and Bush isn't totally valid, but similarities are coming out. (Correct me if I’m wrong about Hitler’s rise to power)

That 9/11 was a staged-up event or not, the US now have all these beautiful Acts and bills to round up and better seize control of the population. This constant "terror threat" is setting an atmosphere of fear, and fear, along dividing, are keys to gaining control over a population. Liberties are being given up for security, yet how real is the exterior threat? And how real is this security? About this, I like Thomas Jefferson's words (once American President): "The man who would choose security over freedom deserves neither."

So far the official 9/11 story has countless flaws, and the government isn't responding to any questions presented for example in the videos above. The war in Iraq remains unjustified. First it was because of WMDs and because of Sadam's cooperation with Al Qaeda, but no WMDs were found, and neither proofs of cooperation. Then it was to free the Iraqi people of Sadam's authoritarian regime and to spread democracy (with the armed hands of an authoritarian?). But actually, Darfur has hundreds of thousands of deaths because of an ongoing genocide, yet nothing significant is being done...

But hey, Iraq is a strategic position in the Middle East, it's near Iran and Syria, and it has oil! The war costs -->US citizens<-- more than 6.8 billion bucks a month. Such a great way to spend taxes huh? But hey, war makes the economy roll! "Global military expenditure and arms trade form the largest spending in the world at over $950 billion in annual expenditure, as noted by the prestigious Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SPIRI), for 2003." Yes, that's only for 2003. In the US alone, the "military budget request by the Bush Administration for Fiscal Year 2007 is $462.7 billion." ( [link to www.globalissues.org]

Anyway... I'd add more, but I'll stop for now. :P

Hope you enjoyed the reading.
