With the advancement of technology, humanity has changed much faster in many different ways than in the period of hunter/gatherer.
We don't have to go back thousands of years, we can go back less than 100 years and see a huge difference how humanity has changed with technology.
There was a period of time when people didn't have electricity or batteries. Before the automobile was invented. There was a time people didn't have cameras, and video recorders, alarm clocks, TV's and computers.
You lived your life everyday and you knew everything based on your own memory because books were not as common and internet was not even an idea, you woke up when the sun was coming up and by the chickens awakening you. The food you ate was organic, usually harvested the same day it was prepared and eaten. There was no industrial pollution, vehicle pollution, mass population pollution, airplane pollution etc.
You didn't have a " car " because it was not even invented yet. Horses were a method of travel so many people were not able to go far and do trades.
You didn't have to go to a workplace to earn money because money wasn't as important as goods to trade.
Information:
Information was exchanged mostly by word of mouth and many things were kept private and the masses of people didn't have an idea what's going on 200 miles from them.. People were clueless about geography and history.
Many people could lead their lives knowing their information is private and secure and that they have privacy itself.
Entertainment:
People used to go to events or shows periodically, and celebrate in good spirits, because TVs didn't exist yet.
Entertainment was mostly LIVE and rare and not an everyday thing that TV is today.
Back then, your life was your life.
You could build a house and say that the land is also yours.
Consciousness was separated into many parts that were private to each other.
That all changed with technology.
Entertainment was changed by the TV incredibly fast. When it became common to own a TV, this became known as the new entertainment. Back then people actually knew it was not good to watch too much tv, so they watched an hour or so at most in a day.
Kids still played outside and were happy and rarely watched TV.
As the TV became more popular in the late 80's and 90s, almost every househould had one in any 1st and 2nd world country. ( now even in 3rd world almost everyone has one )
This lead to a huge increase into viewers.
This also gave a chance to the government regulated TV companies to play whatever material they wanted to play. After all, you get different channels to watch.
The TV as many know it is used very reliably to control the masses while they think they are just getting entertained and trust the news they listen to.
Internet is actually the "new and improved" TV, because it works much better at controlling the masses, and making the masses happy since it gives people the ability to search and go to sites they want to go to do the things they need to do.
I think just in the last 15 years or so, there has been a tremendous increase in legal privacy breach, and now anybody can be found online because of the various sites such as facebook.com, instagram, twitter etc etc. Even if you type in someones number on google, you can sometimes find their "kijiji ad, various events they used their number in etc "
Msn Messenger and ICQ were one of the first "popular" messengers, and information exchangers and we can think of them as the ancestor to Facebook or instagram, but back then, you didn't need to post your name and last name, you could just use a nickname or a number. It was also mostly based on messaging people online and exchanging information, and not showing your pics or identity or what you do all day.
They added the little Likes feature on many sites such as facebook, youtube, twitter etc etc
You can impress people by saying you have 10000 likes or 1000 friends and it gives you some kind of internet status.
Information exchange gives you credits in the internet world.
Information exchange is also breaching your privacy because more people are tuned in to your everyday life.
Consciousness is drifting together more and more.
With the expansion of control over a single area, such as the European Union , Americas, Middle East, Asias, they are now trying to extinguish history, mix races, move migrants to mix clean areas, make languages obsolete and work towards a singular language spoken by the whole world. ( working towards singularity )
If this entertainment, and mass population control continues for many years, which it will, privacy will be nonexistent, like internet was, 50 years ago. It will not even be an idea.
They are working on devices that will read your mind, They are trying to make the google glass or hologram technology so that you are connected to the grid, everywhere you go.
Your thoughts, or emotions will be tracked and uploaded to servers such as some advanced form of facebook.
Of course, when this technology comes out, it will be in the form of entertainment and will be advertised in a happy good way.
Eventually
Your children will be a product of the government and parental control will be a thing of the past
Foods will become less common and more synthetic alternatives will be the norm with less variety.
Mass population will be more like mass enslavement.
Except the masses will not know since they are dumbed down indefinitely.
The smart ones will be singled out fast, because their thoughts can be read and they will label smart ones and awoken ones, terrorists and use them for their own advantage or dumb them down.
Everybody will know everything about you and even a basic simple form of mind reading, will be available for the masses to use. There will be a system implemented that somehow regulates what thoughts and emotions can be read and how they are read. Since everybody will be dumbed down, their brain chemistry will look very similar so that most of their thoughts will be about celebrity status, money, fame, the new trend, etc. thus the powers will not be affected by such devices.
The Gap widens between powerful and poor. The people at the top also fight each other and even less people control the fate of the earth. Eventually just a few families will control the whole globe, and their own consciousness will bleed into everybody else's if that control becomes more focused.
Mass separated consciousness will become one and that is also called Singularity.
I think when that happens, something really bad will happen, or maybe a restart of the universe.
