As a Veteran of Foriegn Wars, I do not like to be thanked for my service. It is patronizing.

[quote:Anonymous Coward 60467189:MV8zMDE5MzAxXzUzNTQ2Nzg3X0JCOEFBRjQ2] The whole thank you thing has gotten so cliche. It's a media campaign like pink ribbons for cancer tits. It's like there's an agenda behind it. Vets don't want celebrity status for having done their job. We don't want continual acknowledgment. We don't need it. We chose that path, did our jobs, and now want to move on with our lives. The only thing I've accepted was front row parking at Applebee's one night. They had a sign by the door that said veterans only. The only reason I took the spot was there were no other parking places open. So in that case I took it. But normally I wouldn't have. Another time I had to get a physical for work and the doctor was like you're a vet? No charge today. I was like you really don't have to do that. I felt ashamed but he was so proud to give something I didn't want to be a dick. [/quote]

The only vets I know who actually appreciate the praise are Air Force queers. They never even saw a gun.
I don't like and never accept first class boarding when I fly. I'm ashamed of fellow soldiers that prance to the front of the line when they say boarding service men and women first. If you want to honor my service then give me a couple drink coupons. But let the old ladies board first, not capable men. It's insulting.
I don't want to talk about my time in the military and please don't ask how many kills I have or I might just shed a tear.
We don't want acknowledgment or praise or thank you's. We want you to stand up for the constitution and maintain your government. That's how you can repay your vets. Keep your government in check so we don't have to come out of deactivation and fix shit.
