Report: ISIL Selling Oil to Turkey through Qatari Brokers

Erdogan family and their partners in Erbil let off the hook in this sourceless and insubstantial blither FARS was conned into running

TEHRAN (FNA) – Sources close to ISIS have confirmed that Ankara supplies the Takfiri militants with weapons and ammunition through Qatari brokers in lieu of the oil the Takfiri terrorist group sells to Turkey through the same channel, media reports disclosed on Friday.

“The ISIL regularly sells crude it obtains from Iraqi and Syrian oil wells to Turkey through some Qatari middlemen,” the Arabic-language Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted unnamed sources inside ISIL as saying.

The sources reiterated that Turkey also sells part of the oil it buys from the ISIL at cheap price to some East European countries. They said whenever the relations between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and ISIS becomes strained, he seeks help of other militant groups such as the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Ahrar al-Sham to buy Syria’s oil.

The Russian Defense Ministry held a briefing, on Wednesday, during which it provided satellite images showing oil trucks amassing at the Turkish-Syrian border as proof of active operations to smuggle oil in Turkey. Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov estimated that ISIL derives an annual income of some $2 billion from oil, which it uses to recruit and equip fighters.

Antonov accused Erdogan and his family of directly profiting from the ISIL oil business, but observed that the Turkish leader would continue to deny his guilt “even if his face is smeared with smuggled oil.”

Tehran University professor Mohammad Marandi said the information presented in the Defense Ministry briefing was not surprising.

“To put it bluntly, everyone already knew what the Turkish government has been doing with Iraqi and Syrian oil over the past few years,” Marandi told Sputnik.

The academic implicated Saudi Arabia and Qatar, in addition to Turkey, all members of a US-led coalition in Iraq and Syria, in providing other forms of backing to ISIL. The terrorist group, notorious for human rights violations and killings, is outlawed in Russia.

Independent researcher and political commentator Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich seized on the subject of state support for ISIL, saying “there is no international coalition” fighting the illicit oil trade.
